Embracing innovation: optimising the administrative workflow for the patient journey in the General Practice

In an era of rapid technological advancement, ophthalmic practices face growing pressure to improve administrative efficiency, reduce manual processes, and enhance patient satisfaction. This talk explores how new software technology can be harnessed to overcome traditional challenges and benefit practitioners and patients significantly.

We explore the critical business processes that drive a successful general practice, emphasising the roles and responsibilities of the practice's staff, from administrative staff to clinicians, and outlining the patient journey from first contact to post-treatment follow-up.

We then discuss how innovative solutions can streamline these processes, highlighting how automation and a paperless approach can elevate patient experience and operational efficiency. We review some of the latest technological developments within each critical business process and examine how integrating new tools optimises the existing workflows.

Finally, we address the importance of upskilling staff to ensure the sustainability and adaptability of these technological advances. By equipping team members with the skills necessary to use and maximise new digital tools, practices can future-proof themselves against evolving healthcare demands and maintain a competitive edge.
